Monday Schedule

September 10, 2020

We would like to update you on our finalized schedule for Monday’s asynchronous day of instruction. Hayfield Mondays will contain four main elements: (1) targeted interventions for specific assigned students, (2) collaborative team office hours for all classes as well as each subschool, (3) a SOAR 4 check-in with students’ SOAR 4 teachers and (4) afternoon collaborative meeting times for all teachers. More specific explanations of all four elements are below.

  1. Each Monday morning targeted interventions will be provided to assigned students. Students will be assigned to these interventions by their teachers. These interventions may evolve as the year progresses and will be specifically geared to students who have the most significant needs . These interventions will occur in three, 45-minute blocks and will be done virtually through Schoology.
  2. All subject teams will hold office hours on Monday mornings to provide additional support and opportunities to make up work. These will be offered by each subject collaborative team, rather than just each individual teacher. For example, we have seven Science 7 teachers. Rather than each of them individually holding office hours during this time, they will collaboratively offer “Science 7 Office Hours” to support students. Individual teachers will still hold one-hour per week of individual office hours after school (similar to our expectations during normal operations). Each sub-school will also hold office hours where assistant principals and counselors will be available in a similar fashion.
  3. At 9:50 AM each Monday all students will check-in to their SOAR 4 teacher. This will be an opportunity for students to receive support in making a plan for the week, getting advice on how to improve in their classes, and build relationships with their teacher and peers. Please note, the Commonwealth of Virginia requires us to take attendance all five days of the week, so we are obligated to take attendance on this day, even though it is identified as an asynchronous day in our virtual learning plan.
  4. Following a lunch break, all teachers will engage in collaborative team meetings with their colleagues for the afternoon. This planning time is essential for teachers to plan and make decisions related to their instruction, assessment, and tiered support of their students.

Office hours and interventions will be offered through Schoology and directions on how to access those opportunities will be forthcoming. We are working with the Schoology team to establish those virtual meeting spaces in a secure and easily accessible fashion (they have to be set up differently than the normal class sessions). For our first Hayfield Monday schedule on Monday, September 14th, teachers will operate their office hours by appointment only while these technical details are worked out. We appreciate your continued patience and flexibility as we work through these details in a thorough and rapid fashion.
