High School National Honor Society
11th and 12th graders: If you are eligible to apply to NHS this year (at least a 3.5 GPA), you received an email last week inviting you to the NHS interest/application information meeting that was held on October 19 in the afternoon. If you were unable to attend, a recording of the video can be found in the All School course in Schoology. It can be found under the updates. Please remember, the application is due on November 5, no later than 3:00 pm. You are still able to apply even if you did not attend the interest/application information meeting.
Summer Residential Governor’s Schools
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers the opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students to apply to attend summer residential Governor’s schools in academics and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Students who are accepted into one of the programs will live in residence halls in one of the state colleges in VA for four weeks in the June - late July timeframe. FCPS to Require Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination for Athletic Participation
Beginning November 8, FCPS will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for any student participating in Virginia High School League (VHSL) winter and spring sports for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination will also be required for participation in any other activity that requires a physical. This includes dance team and step team, as well as out-of-season practices and workouts.
Anticipated Bus Delays
Due to the bus driver shortage, we will be increasing “double back” bus runs, meaning a bus is required to run two scheduled routes back to back that would normally have been covered by two separate buses. These “double backs” may impact delivery time to schools or bus stops and may have a domino effect, affecting after-school drop-off times.
There is now a new Emergency Broadband Benefit available to eligible households through the Federal Communications Commission. This is a temporary benefit that will help to lower the cost of internet broadband service during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Find out more.
