Mrs. Mary Allan, with her March 2023 FCPS CARES Region 3 Recipient of the Month certificate, presented by submitter Mr. James Mercer and the FCPS Department of Human Resources, at a school recognition event on May 1.

Congratulations to Mrs. Mary Allan on her recognition as the March 2023 FCPS CARES Region 3 Recipient of the Month, presented by the FCPS Department of Human Resources.

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story below, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees.

Below is the write-up submitted by Mr. James Mercer, a colleague at Hayfield Secondary.

On Wednesday, 3/1/23, one of our varsity lacrosse players came to me (I am the Head Boys Coach at Hayfield Secondary) to explain that he would have to take a leave of absence from the team because his mother had suffered a medical emergency, and his father was away. He explained to me that he was going to the hospital immediately. I told him that we had his and his family's back, no matter what, and that his position would be waiting for him when he returned. Soon afterward, I let Mrs. Allan know of this development. She immediately asked for the player's name and checked where he lived. She then organized a plan to provide food for him and his family and explained to me that she would check on him that night and make sure he was fed and was not alone. Later she contacted me to let me know that she had gone to his home and met with other members of the family, including the student athlete's father, who had returned home. Mrs. Allan told me that she, too, would keep an eye on our student-athlete until his mother recovered. This is the type of person, community member, and employee that Mrs. Allan is; one is always going the extra mile for anyone in need! Thank you, Mrs. Allan, for being a true inspiration to all of us and for displaying the type of care and concern that should be intrinsic to all of us here at Hayfield and in FCPS!
