The FCPS School Counseling Services recognizes the impact of all school counseling professionals at the forefront of the national school counseling movement for data-driven, comprehensive school counseling programs. The FCPS Outstanding School Counseling Professional Awards promote the outstanding services to students, schools, and the community your professionalism and dedication have created.  

Selection Criteria for the 2023-24 Outstanding New School Counselor 

The candidate: 

  • Is within their first three years of being a school counselor in FCPS as of June 2024. 
  • Is responsible for school counseling innovations or further development of programs supporting students’ career, social/emotional, and academic development. 
  • Demonstrates evidence of implementing a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.
  • Promotes equity and access to opportunities and rigorous educational experiences for each student to maximize achievement.
  • Fosters an environment where diversity in all of its forms is valued and appreciated.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continual professional development.
  • Provides advocacy for students and school counseling programs.
  • Represents school counseling in a professional manner.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, families, and the community to promote student achievement.
