Hayfield Secondary School is proud to be recognized as a Purple Star School, a distinction that highlights our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. With a college, career, and civic readiness rate of 87%, Hayfield is committed to preparing students for future success. We offer a wide range of career and technical education courses, including Technology & Engineering, Family & Consumer Science, Business & Information Technology, Marketing, Auto Technology, JROTC Army, and Cosmetology. With a strong focus on college and career readiness, Hayfield ensures that students are well-prepared to pursue higher education or enter the workforce.

Significant Academic Gains
Hayfield has made substantial progress in student achievement. Notably, there has been an 11% increase in English proficiency for students with disabilities, with many students being removed from project momentum status. All students have shown improvement in math, with an 11.2% overall increase. This progress is particularly significant for specific student groups: a 40% increase for students with disabilities, a 10% increase for multilingual learners, and a 16% increase for Black students. Additionally, the school has seen a 6% increase in science proficiency and a 20% reduction in chronic absenteeism, moving to a Level 1 status. The school's commitment to college and career readiness is evident in the 6.4% increase in this area, also moving to a Level 1 status. With a 98% graduation and completion rate, Hayfield Secondary continues to provide a high-quality education for all students.
A School of Distinction
We were honored to receive the Virginia Space Coast Scholars Award, recognizing our commitment to academic excellence and STEM education. Additionally, we secured grants from VA STAR and Educate Fairfax to refurbish and distribute laptops to veterans from Fort Belvoir and Spanish-speaking families in our community. These initiatives are part of our ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide and empower our community members. Furthermore, Hayfield is among 17 FCPS schools recognized on the 2024 Advanced Placement School Honor Roll. This Annual opportunity for recognition is based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Student Publications
Hayfield Secondary School takes pride in its vibrant student publications, which showcase the creativity and talent of its students. Harvester News, the student-produced magazine, highlights engaging stories, news, and features crafted by students across grade levels. The Accipiter, Hayfield’s middle school yearbook, captures the memories and achievements of younger Hawks, while the Harvester, the high school yearbook, chronicles the experiences and milestones of upperclassmen. These publications provide students with hands-on opportunities to develop skills in journalism, design, and storytelling while celebrating the unique spirit of the Hayfield community.
Principal’s Student Advisory Committee
Hayfield Secondary School is proud to introduce its first-ever Principal’s Student Advisory Committee, an initiative designed to amplify student voice and foster meaningful dialogue between students and school leadership. With two full-time counselors, a psychologist, and a social worker, we ensure that every student has access to the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
